SOLID HARMONY: The Legacy of Topsy ChapmanSolid Harmony is the family band founded by New Orleans late, great vocalist Topsy Chapman shortly after her rise to notoriety with her starring role in the hit Off-Broadway musical, One Mo Time in the 1980s. Topsy Chapman charmed crowds all over the world with her authentic style and clear melodious voice for over 50 years, and is regarded as a New Orleans vocal legend.Raised in the gospel music tradition, Topsy and her daughters swiftly became staples among the jazz, blues and soul circuits, singing with some of the top musicians in New Orleans. As one of the original cast members of the early hit musical One Mo Time - set in 1920s New Orleans Black vaudeville - Topsy gained national and international recognition.This acclaim created ongoing demand in years to come for performances by the family band she founded with her daughters, Topsy Chapman & Solid Harmony.Topsys singing daughters, Yolanda and Kiki, and her grandson, trombonist Caleb Windsay, now carry on the family tradition, leading Solid Harmony into the future:After studying and playing with the respected clarinetist and educator Alvin Batiste, Topsys elder daughter Yolanda Robinson has earned her own notoriety among peers as one of New Orleans finest female vocalists of jazz, blues and gospel.
